Summer is the perfect time for a cookout, and what better way to celebrate the season than with a Pixar Up Cookout? Carl, Russell, Dug, and even Kevin provide plenty of inspiration for a fun and memorable gathering. We share how to create a whimsical “Up”-themed cookout, complete with a menu, recipes, and decor ideas that will delight guests of all ages.
This tablescape was simple but so cute. We were inspired by the clear blue sky, fluffy clouds, and colorful balloons from the film. To create the look we dressed the table in a light blue tablecloth and topped it with a white felt cloud runner. The table runner was so simple to make using 1/4″ yard of white felt. We just cut out a cloud with sharp scissors and popped it on top of the table.
An Up party or dinner wouldn’t be complete without lots of balloons! We created a centerpiece using this template from Peach Blum and a bouquet of colorful balloons. It was so adorable, festive, and easy! This look is quite versatile and would be perfect for a graduation party, a baby shower, a family dinner, or a birthday party.
Because we chose a BBQ menu for this party and served our food buffet style, we opted to use disposable place settings. We love this set which includes dinner plates and salad plates. We used this Tableluxe cutlery. It is heavy and durable. The quality and appearance are beautiful.
We chose to add a light blue cloth napkin and sunflower napkin ring to each place setting. These adorable napkin rings are simple and fast to make at home. See our step-by-step tutorial for making floral napkin rings here.
There are so many charming details from the film that can be incorporated into the decor. We chose to add a globe, a framed print inspired by the movie, some fresh sunflowers, and a glass jar labeled “Paradise Falls” to our serving buffet. We also had fun displaying Ellie’s Confetti Cake Pops in a miniature suitcase.
We created a simple-to-create menu inspired by the characters in Pixar Up. The dishes are easy to create and will delight guests of all ages. Get all the recipes below.
If you are an Up fan, you might remember the grape soda bottle cap that Ellie gave to Carl when they first met. Carl refers to the bottle cap as “The Ellie Badge” so grape soda was a non-negotiable for our meal.
Hot dogs appeal to all ages and are super fun to serve on a board with your favorite toppings and sides! Whether you like a simple hot dog topped with ketchup & mustard or prefer a gourmet dog with signature toppings you’ll be covered with this hot dog bar. Our favorite toppings are mac ‘n cheese, dill spears, sauerkraut, onions, tomatoes, relish, ketchup, and mustard. Get the recipe here.
These little cloud desserts are so cute! They are simple to create and only require two ingredients: blue raspberry Jello and whipped cream. We added a few colorful candy balls to the tops to give a nod to balloons floating on the clouds. Get our recipe here.
We love Ellie and her sweet & bubbly personality! These cheerful confetti pops are as sweet as they are cute. They are easy to make and only require three ingredients: a funfetti cupcake, vanilla frosting, and white candy melts. We added some edible confetti sprinkles to the tops to add a festive touch. Get our recipe here.
Kevin is such a fun character! In the film she likes chocolate and keeps trying to take a bite out of Russell’s chocolate bar. We created a chocolate shake garnished with whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and a chocolate bar in her honor. Get our recipe here.
Poor Carl has some pretty gloomy moments in the movie. Thankfully the adventure to Paradise Falls and his new friends help him find brighter days. These cute cloud cookies are a sweet spot on our menu and are slathered with vanilla buttercream and sprinkled with white nonpareils. Get our favorite sugar cookie recipe here.
By combining the heartwarming and adventurous spirit of “Up” with the relaxed and fun atmosphere of a summer cookout, you can create a memorable event that captures the imagination of guests young and old. Happy adventuring!
