Mickey's Candy Gingerbread House
Ingredients:
- Pre-made Gingerbread House
- 4 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 3 tablespoons meringue powder
- 6-8 tablespoons warm water
- Kelly green gel food coloring
- Red Mickey candy
- Red confetti candy
- Leaf shape gumdrop candies
- Red and green M & Ms
- Crushed candy canes
- Granulated sugar
Equipment:
- Cake plate
- Stand mixer or hand mixer
- 2 piping bags with couplers
- 2 medium round tips
Instructions:
- Combine confectioner’s sugar, meringue powder, and 6 tablespoons of warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment. Beat on high speed until fluffy (similar consistency to whipped cream). Add more water 1/2 tablespoon at a time to achieve desired consistency. If icing is too thin, add more confectioner’s sugar.
- Remove 1 cup of icing and place in a bowl. Add a small amount of kelly green food coloring and combine thoroughly. Add to a piping bag fitted with a medium round tip.
- Add remaining white icing to a piping bag fitted with a medium round tip.
- Using white icing in a piping bag with a medium round tip, cover the roof with icing. Use an icing knife to smooth it out.
- Outline the windows and panes with white icing. Next, outline a door with a slightly rounded top. Fill in with icing and smooth with an icing knife. Add decorative details to all sides of the house.
- Using a piping bag of green icing fitted with a medium round tip, add greenery trim around the door. Add a Mickey shaped wreath at the top of the house at the peak of the roof.
- Add red confetti candies to the greenery and place a red Mickey candy on the front door. Add a dot of icing to the backs of two leaf shaped gumdrop candies and adhere them to the front of the house to simulate shrubs.
- Using white icing in a piping bag with a medium round tip, add icicles to the roof line. To do this squeeze icing out and gently pull down. Repeat the process around the entire roof line.
- Add a small dot of icing to the back of red and green M & Ms and add hidden Mickey’s to the roof. Add a line of alternating red and green M & Ms along the peak of the roof.
- Add icing to the back of more M & M’s and adhere them along the bottom edge of the house.
- To display your house, add a white icing path on the cardboard base of the house. Place red M & Ms along the edge of the path and fill the center of the path with crushed candy canes. Sprinkle granulated sugar around the house to simulate freshly fallen snow.
