We were inspired by the lovely Victorian carousel scene in the film and created a tablescape to reflect some of the details: pink & white candy stripes, Mary Poppins’ parasol, lush flowers, and carousel horses.
The table was dressed in an off white linen tablecloth and a rose and cream striped table runner. Mounds of white and raspberry roses along with Annabelle hydrangeas from our garden served as our centerpiece. We arranged the raspberry roses in a pair of beautiful antique etched glass goblets.
Our off white china sat atop gold chargers. We served water out of crystal goblets and used our antique silverware to fit the Victorian theme. Off white linen napkins were adorned with a pink satin ribbon and gold carousel horse. A “spoon full of sugar” served as a favor at each place setting. Get our recipe to make these adorable edible favors.
We created custom printables to add more Mary Poppins’-inspired magical. You can purchase our package on Etsy which includes a set of four art prints, editable place cards, a menu, an editable invitation, and party circles.
We had a marvelous time creating a delicious and whimsical menu for our Mary Poppins tea party. Get the recipes below.
We created two tasty tea sandwiches to begin our tea. The first was cucumber with herbed cream cheese serve atop a pumpernickel rye round. The second was egg salad and pea shoots served on white. We paired our sandwiches with herbed cream cheese stuffed cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices. Get our tea sandwich recipe here.
Scones are a classic favorite for tea parties. Our family loves raspberries so we whipped up a batch of delicious raspberry cream scones. They are moist on the inside and crumbly on the outside, sweet and buttery, and bursting with flavor. Yum! We served the scones with some homemade raspberry-rhubard preserves and fresh whipped cream. These adorable carousel cupcakes as delicious as they are pretty. The fluffy vanilla cupcakes are topped with sweet lavender buttercream and topped with pretty gold carousel toppers. Get our carousel cupcake tutorial.
We adore the carousel scene in Mary Poppins and just had to include a parasol dessert! These sugar cookies get some extra special attention with white and pink royal icing and tiny pink buttercream flowers. They were light, delicate and perfect with raspberry tea!
The star of the show was these adorable mini hat cakes! They are easy to make and sooooo yummy. The cakes are made up of three layers of raspberry cream cake with raspberry filling sandwiched between them. Then they are enveloped with fluffy vanilla frosting and decorated with rose colored buttercream sashes & flowers which are embellished with candy pearls. Get our recipe here.
I’ve saved my absolute favorite for last! It just wouldn’t be proper to host a Mary Poppins tea without a spoonful of sugar! We created these dainty little “Spoonful of Sugar” cake bites and served them on miniature spoons. Each guest enjoyed one at their place setting. They were such fun to create, display, and serve!
