Crisp tube shaped pastry is filled with a sweet creamy filling using ricotta cheese. Choose toppings of candied fruit, pistachios, or chocolate. This easy recipe uses store bought cannoli shells and a sweet creamy filling with a hint of lemon. This recipe was featured on our Pinocchio dinner.
Ingredients
- 6 cannoli shells, store bought
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, plus extra for dusting
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Zest of one lemon
Directions
- In a large bowl combine the ricotta cheese, confectioners’ sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest; mix well. Place the mixture into a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2 inch open tip. The star tip is our favorite for this recipe.
- Pipe the filling into one end of the cannoli shell, filling the shell halfway; then pipe filling into the other end.
- Sprinkle the cannolis with mini chocolate chips and lightly dust with confectioner’s sugar if desired. Serve immediately.
