Instructions
In the meantime, fill a soda can with dried beans or small rocks.
Remove the yogurt container from the freezer and place soda can in the center. Add water until it reaches about a half inch from the top of the soda can. Add more rocks or beans if needed to keep soda can from floating. If necessary, tape the soda can down to ensure the bottom of the soda can sits flat on the surface of the frozen base. Freeze for several hours until solid.
Remove the luminary from the freezer and run warm water over the outside of the yogurt container to loosen. Next pour hot water into the mouth of the soda can to loosen it from the luminary.
Display your luminaries on a mirror or glass plate. Add a votive candle or battery operated candle burning within.
1. How long do ice luminaries last indoors?
In a cool room, ice luminaries can last 2-4 hours before they begin to melt.
2. Can I use real candles inside the luminaries?
Yes, but LED candles are a safer option, especially indoors.
3. What happens if the luminaries melt during the event?
Place them on waterproof trays or plates to prevent water damage, and replace them as needed.
