I love the smell of fresh gingerbread, creamy frosting, sweet candy, and twinkling Christmas lights! Creating gingerbread houses and cookies is a tradition our family has been enjoying for the past decade. Hosting a gingerbread house party has become a sweet and magical Christmas tradition for our family. I can’t imagine a Christmas without it!
We enjoy giving each child their own miniature gingerbread house to decorate. They take such pride in creating their own unique masterpieces. I love to witness the creative process for each child and enjoy that each gingerbread house is a reflection of them.
We enjoy looking at beautiful gingerbread houses for inspiration.
Each child got their own house which we placed on a plastic plate. The plates kept the table nice and neat so any candy that falls off the house is kept in place.
We had fun collecting beautiful candies to decorate our gingerbread houses.
Mini Candy Canes
Starlight Mints
Mini Marshmallows
Gumdrops
Dots
Jelly Beans
Candy Balls
Mike & Ikes
Necco Wafers (these make fabulous shingles)
If you’d like to offer more decorating fun, consider baking gingerbread men for your guests to personalize. We arranged candies, royal icing and cookies on this tray which can be set in the center of the table for more decorating fun.
For the table we used a red gingham tablecloth. Each house was adorned with a coordinating red gingham bow. We placed little bowls of candies down the table and used a red poinsettia and a full-size gingerbread house as the centerpiece.
We enjoyed using Tableluxe disposable holiday dinnerware. We love the red accents on the plates and topped each with a red napkin folded into a tree shape. We topped each napkin with a candy cane favor. Tableluxe offers cute red flatware and white tea cups that paired perfectly with the place setting.
One of the best aspects of a gingerbread decorating party is eating all the candy! This party was no exception. We kept refreshments light with gingerbread cookies and a hot cocoa bar.
To keep life simple, we purchased mini gingerbread houses. We assembled them in advance and added a pink polka dotted bow for a sweet touch. The gingerbread houses, candy, and royal icing were all purchased from Target. They were affordable, convenient, and easy to work with.
We love creating variety in our school routine during December with Christmas-themed units and activities. Below are some fun gingerbread themed learning resources we recommend.
