The story of Bambi comes from a book called Bambi, a Life in the Woods written by Felix Salten. It was Walt Disney’s fifth animated feature film and was released in 1942. The animation experts at Disney wanted to make the animals look realistic and move naturally. To achieve this they brought real animals into the zoo to observe their movements so they could realistically depict them on screen. Bambi was one of Walt Disney’s favorite films and spreads a message of friendship and love.
We were inspired by the natural beauty and enchantment of the woods. Our family lives less than a mile from a nature preserve and enjoy going to observe the animals in their natural environment. We used elements from nature including wood serving pieces, fresh daffodils, pussy willows, ferns, moss and dried lotus pods to create a feeling of being in the woods.
The table was dressed in a pale yellow table cloth. For our place settings we chose to use ivory china topped with a flower bowl. We used our antique silver, a simple glass goblet, and floral napkins. The napkins remind me of an impressionist painting.
Our centerpiece featured a sea of fresh daffodils arranged in a cream crock. We added woodland details of moss bunnies, pussy willows, lotus pods, a birch candle and a wooden tray.
We displayed our desserts – carrot cake cupcakes, fresh berries, butterfly cookies, chocolate birch logs, and acorn cookies – on the serving buffet along with more fresh daffodils, pussy willows, a little bird’s nest, and a sweet art print of Bambi .
Our menu featured flavors of spring. The dishes were fresh and vibrant and would be perfect for an Easter or spring brunch.
We served fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries in waffle cones. The presentation was pretty and they were fun to eat.
This goat cheese quiche with hash brown crust from Martha Stewart is my favorite. The creamy rich filling paired with the crisp hash brown crust is perfect. We served it with lemon asparagus and a bechamel sauce. Delicious!
We wanted to capture the flavors of spring while celebrating the beautiful woodland setting of the film. The result was a delicious trio of mini desserts including carrot cake rose cupcakes, butterfly cookies, and candy birch logs and acorn cookies.
Our carrot cake cupcakes are rich, moist, tender, and delicious. The whipped cream cheese frosting provides the perfect balance. Anna decorated the cupcakes using a petal tip. For the cupcakes we used my mom’s fabulous carrot cake recipe. Get our recipe here.
We used our favorite sugar cookie recipe. The cookies were adorable and reminded us of the butterfly sitting atop Bambi’s nose in the art print.
These adorable Woodland themed treats are as easy as they are tasty. The kids had fun making and eating them. Create candy dipped “birch logs” and chocolate acorns in minutes with our tutorial.
