Around the World with Disney Movies

Our family loves traveling to new places! We also love all things Disney and one of our favorite activities is watching classic Disney films as a family. We like to add a little Disney magic to our geography studies by incorporating classic Disney films into learning. It’s educational and fun for the whole family! If you’d like to add a little magic to your geography studies, learn how you can travel around the world with Disney movies.

Around the World with Disney

First choose a country you want to learn about, select a movie set in that country, and begin planning. Our kids love experiential learning so we look for as many hands-on activities as possible including map drawing, research, literature, art, music, food, and cultural studies. There are many wonderful films to choose from!

Watch a YouTube video or documentary that will provide you with a birds eye view of the landscape, geographical features, landmarks, and cultural highlights of the country. This Ultimate YouTube Playlist for World Geography has several good quality free resources.
Check out books from the library to learn about the features of the country you are studying.
Consider the following questions as you conduct your research.
- What are some famous foods?
- How do people dress?
- What language do they speak?
- What types of animals live there?
- What kinds of houses do people live in?
- What do kids do for fun?
- What type of music do they listen to?
- What are the country’s special cultural traditions?

Plan and enjoy a special menu that incorporates foods from the country.
Decorate your space, display artwork or souvenirs, and play music from the country to create a unique ambiance.
Consider asking each child in your family to share a presentation on one or more or the notable features of the country.
Plan an art or craft project or play a game that reflects the culture you are learning about.
